AFRICAN PROVERB – TWO BANGLES MAKE TOO MUCH NOISE

MEANING – When applied to conflict, “two bangles make too much noise” means that it takes two people to create a fight.

• • Silence breaks the clash: One bangle cannot jingle by itself. By staying calm, you refuse to provide the second surface needed to create the “noise” of an argument.
  • Control beats chaos: The person shouting has lost control. The person remaining calm retains their power and dignity.
  • Diffusing aggression: An angry attack requires a reactive counter-attack to turn into a full battle. Silence or calmness starves the anger of the fuel it needs.
