In many parts of Africa, a donkey hauls water, goods, building materials, waste, even an entire family’s livelihood.
No leather interior, No climate control. No status symbol. Just function.
Meanwhile elsewhere, people finance £60k SUV’s they can barely afford to project success.
So what is wealth? Ownership of expensive machinery? Or having enough community, resilience and perspective not to need performative status?
Who is actually richer?
The person with the luxury car… or the one with peace, purpose and no debt?
Does modern wealth create abundance – simply the illusion of it?
The donkey moves slowly, intentionally. No overtaking. No road rage. No status anxiety.
Modern life worships speed. But has speed improved wellbeing? Or only increased stress?
Who sleep better, the person chasing symbols or the one simply living?
Are donkeys a useful partner or exploitation? These animals are trusted working companions in many communities. But when does necessity become exploitation?
Is it acceptable if; Family survival depends on it? There are no alternatives? The animal is well cared for?
People are horrified by working animals but indifferent to factory farming?
